If very short monoflop pulses are to be selected, then it's better to have two independent time constants, for the debouncing of switch and the performing of trigger puls. Try this circuit:



This circuit produces highly stable pulses in the range of 5msec...10sec.
Use a multiturn version for the 2M2 pot, though, and/or put a 100k pot in series to the 2M2 pot, for the fine tuning.
