The crossbar switch thingy is a little odd

and so is some of the 'inventions' you see in the deviates (f3x-up) such as e.g. external clock must connect to XTAL2 and the IIC driver is nonstandard and RCAP is renamed and .... BUT none are problems, just gotchas read carefully.

In relation to the above when using the SILabs deviates (f3x-up) experience is not an advantage, it is a hindrance.
