#173735 - likewise with that other board ... Responding to: Andy Neil's previous message |

In this particular case, you've been given answers! Just as in this case - plenty of answers, but nothing quite what I was looking for! I did mention the NMIY-0031 board, which has a PLCC-44 8031 on it, but could easily have a two-UART MCU plugged in. I'd guess the New Micros people would sell a batch with no installed MCU, probably knocking off a couple of dollars from their normal price of $39, and two wires would solve the problem, in that the differential drivers could be wired directly to Tx and Rx of the otherwise unused UART. Now, I don't remember exactly which diff drivers were present, but there are RS485-compatible, pin-compatible versions (Dip-8-packaged) drivers that could be substituted if the ones that are present aren't suitable. The other option would be to put the required drivers in that prototype area on the board. In either case, it's not without some physical labor. However, with a price of <$40, some physical labor investment might be warranted, rather than paying the otherwise too-high price of some other board. Of course, someone will whine that there are features (memory, etc.) provided that aren't needed ... <sigh> ... and that ISP isn't supported ... As a first attempt, I'd certainly consider the two-wire addition as a solution. RE |
