#185553 - Why not choose a modern 8051?
Responding to: Kai Klaas's previous message
There are many bog-standard 8051s e.g. AT89C52, AT89S52, ...
They all need external resistors and have no output source capability.

There are later devices with push-pull, internal pull-ups etc.
These need very few external components.

They all 'work'. Some devices are simpler for pcb design. Some devices have extra or better peripherals. Some are faster.

It is well worth looking at different makers, and making a balanced decision.

David.
