I guess there is a language problem here. If the tube can hold just one item, the count is always ONE.

I ask again "counting objects present in the tube" or "counting objects being added to the tube"

I used wrong terms inserted in tube instead of passing through tube.
It seems to me that solution with hinged loaded lid can be simple and cheap.
