Pretty much in order to program the lock bits AND unprogram the serial programming fuse you have to use a parallel programmer, unprogram the serial programming fuse first, then program the lock bits. They stated that once you enabled any sort of memory lock level it prevents any writes to the chip...including the fuse bits.

So not something I'll worry about. Level 2 and Level 3 provide the read protection I need anyway...just figured I'd further extend the security via preventing access via a serial programmer.
