As an educated guess, if the DOS program accesses system hardware directly, it may not work under XP.

Following options exist :

1. Try it out yourself.
2. Ask Bill Gates.
3. Pray to God.

If you think I am kidding, I am not. I have gone through this frustration quite often and most of the times get that odd DOS program run successfully in a PC that can boot in real DOS mode. With every new OS flavour, MS have been progressively reducing support for DOS - and XP is the latest in this. Better watch out.
