#102070 - What Schottky diode?
Responding to: Erik Malund's previous message

why all the stuff, a Schottky diode does just fine.

What Schottky diode do you use?

Well, it might not be interesting in the application of Prahlad, but in applications, where the coil must be "discharged" very quickly a bidirectional transzorb is the better solution. It allows the develop of some inductive kick, which is equal to threshold voltage of transzorb, to allow a higher discharging current to flow just afterwards. This can tremendously speed up the discharge of coil.
There are applications which only work with this bidirectional transzorb and where a simple free wheeling diode will not do the job!
