#108282 - Solid ground plane has to be solid!
Responding to: Suresh R's previous message
Suresh said:
is it advisable to form a solid ground plane in the bottom layer (since bottom layer will also contain contain signal traces) that connects to the GND pins of all the components?

I never use auto-routers, because design rules of these auto-routers often collide with my design rules...

The idea of a solid ground plane is, that it is solid! No gaps and other discontinuities are allowed with a solid ground plane. So, when your auto-router places all the different traces on top and bottom layers connected by dozens of vias, then there will not be a solid ground plane on your PCB, neither on top nor on bottom side.

So, I would recommend you to route the traces by hand. With a bit brain work you can achieve astonishing results, where only very few changes of layers are needed and where a solid ground plane can be achieved. Have a look at this demonstration board for instance:

Take care, in this example the many vias are missing, which connect the many ground fills on top side to the solid ground plane on bottom side. These vias have to be added still!
