I had further conversation with them today and it seems that they want to go through the more involved process of talking to friends/old colleges etc which is quite a frightening prospect ;-)
Mind you i can point them in the direction of certain people who wouldn't welcome security people asking too many questions.
Anyway i know someone who made the mistake of 'joking' with 'just' customs people and he regreted it,so I'll try not to mention the space hamsters.
There is always this feeling that 'The Man' doesnt want certain inventions getting out,I ahve heard about the encryption getting stopped and they tried very hard to shut Philip Zimmerman down when he wrote pgp.
