This was a project on which my client was using that POS bEAGLE to lay out the board. If we'd used any other package, it might not have been so bad. The library footprints were oddly configured, i.e. pads for all the surface mount packages extended too far beneath the packages to allow proper inspection, they were too wide, and too long, didn't leave enough space for tracks between the pads, and so on ...

If we'd started with our own footprint design, we'd have saved weeks. It then wouldn't have been the PITA that it was. Of course, bEAGLE did't make it easy to modify surface mount, or any other, package outline. Maybe they've fixed that by now ... one can only hope.
