#189211 - I'm not surprised ...

Ok where to start ...

To richard, all of what you said was confusing so I would have no clue where to start about monitoring and such. As said above I did request a sample and I do have FSI Proview and the means to link to the DS89C450, but until then Im just trying to figure out the old one.

All in all i don't care how old or useless it is, I find it challenging and awarding doing things i don't quite understand and accomplishing them. In a way it helps me in class.

I'm not surprised that I confused you as I was trying to get several important concepts to you in the same message. Since you're new at this, I should probably have been more careful to separate concepts.

A monitor is a software tool, without some form of which you simply can't do much. Have a look at this writeup regarding Ultramon51. That will tell you what that monitor, among others, can do and how you'd use it.

The absolutely simplest, least-effort, most-likely-to-succeed way to build your own development board is to use that DS89C450 that you've asked to have sampled to you, attach an oscillator of appropriate frequency, attach a MAX232A as shown in the user guide, and program the Ultramon51 monitor into it. Once that's in place, you can assemble, debug, disassemble, or whatever without any other tools or any additional investment. I'd recommend a quiet linear power supply of at least 1 amp capacity. That will allow you to drive LED's, relays, etc.

If you want any additional information, contact me via email.
