#190529 - Well, ...

they are able to get so much done with so little code

Be careful what you mean by "so little code" there!!

It may be only a little user code - but it relies on a great deal of Library code.

as an example just to initialize a serial port and get something done with it, is a simple one line instruction like "Serial.begin(9600)". Which in a 8051 is not as easy as this

That's not the fault of the 8051, is it?

If you happened to have such a library, then it would be just as easy on an 8051!

Just wondering if the Arduino is in fact a rapid way to start and get going ?

Yes, of course it is - because so much of the basic, standard stuff is already done for you in the libraries.

But, when you need to go beyond that, it's just like any other microcontroller...
