Steiner Windows CE/Sales Project "Windows CE-based sales route tracking and receipt printer " Back to full resume | PDF version of this page Overview Project consisted of developing a sales and route control system within a Windows CE environment using a Symbol Technologies PPT2700 hand-held device. Software functions included utilizing the integrated barcode scanner, file system, and IrDA infrared I/O port to communicate with an external portable printer. The application is used by delivery personnel that deliver food product to customers, using the application to record sales, transit times, and print sales notes. Approach Wrote code in Visual Basic for Windows CE. Accessed IrDA infrared port to communicate with external receipt printer. Utilized the on-board barcode scanner. Accessed external printer using a small DLL module written in 'C'. Application kept track of when delivery personnel reached scheduled locations by scanning a barcode located at that location. Allowed the delivery personnel to capture the products that were sold to the customer. Produced an itemized receipt for the customer that indicates the unit price, line price, and total price of the products sold. Allowed this information to be downloaded to a PC upon personnel's return to distribution center so that sales information could be analyzed. System also kept track of the time/date each customer was visited by delivery personnel to determine efficiency of the employees. Technology Main application was developed in Visual Basic for Windows CE . Small DLL to communicate with external printer was written in Visual C++. Craig Steiner's Role Principle designer of system.
