It got to the point that I received much more spam than we did real mail. Time is money in business and receiving all this unwanted email was costing me time. This motivated me to develop PrismEmail. http://www.prismemail.com. Approach Write a POP3 proxy server and intercept SPAM before it gets downloaded by the email client. Provide a Web Interface to allow users to configure and customize their own filter settings. Provide a Web Interface to allow users to view their blocked and permitted email, and correct any emails that were classified incorrectly (i.e. download blocked good mail, and report un-blocked spam). Implement Bayesian Filtering which 'learns' email and patterns and provides up to 99.5% effective filtering· Implement 'standard' Encoding, Keyword, Country Origin, Black List, White List, and File Extension filters. Optionally send each user a nightly synopsis of their good and bad email to allow classification corrections. Provide a Web Interface to allow users to configure and customize their own filter settings. Provide an SMTP relay service for users to use from any ISP network. Technology The POP3 Server, Filters, and SMTP Server are all written in C. The Web Interface is written in PHP and runs under an Apache Web Server. All code interfaces with a common MySQL database. The entire system is deployed under RedHat LINUX.
