Overview
A book covering the architecture, hardware, and software for the 8052 microcontroller,
including the design and fabrication of a custom single-board computer for instructional
purposes in the book.
Approach
- Wrote chapters on the underlying microcontroller architecture.
- Wrote chapters on 8052 assembly language.
- Wrote chapters that explain how to develop 8052 programs using the Pinnacle 52 Integrated Development Environment.
- Designed and built a custom single-board computer that included various components for the purpose of providing an instructional example that is fully explained in the book.
- Wrote a fully functional monitor program for the SBC which allows the user to view the SBC's memory, manipulate on-board hardware features, and load user programs for subsequent execution.
- Wrote chapters that explain each component of the SBC design as well as the monitor program.
- Wrote chapters that explained the features of the devices on the SBC, including an external SPI serial EEPROM, an I2C real-time clock, a 4x4 keypad, and an LCD.
Technology
- OpenOffice Writer v1.0.2 to write the book.
- Single-board computer uses or supports the Atmel AT89S8252 and Dallas
89C420 microcontrollers, a 44780-compatible LCD, a 4x4 keypad, a Dallas DS1307
real-time clock, and an Atmel AT25010A serial EEPROM.
- ExpressPcb.com for the schematic and PCB design and fabrication.
